Trying WritersBox early

Thank you for trying this before it's finished. Your feedback is genuinely the thing that makes it good, and I read every word of it.

This page is the deal. It's short, and please actually read it, especially the part about backups.

What you're getting

Free access to WritersBox before release, for as long as the beta runs. No payment, no card, no obligation. You can stop whenever you like and you owe me nothing.

Access is personal to you. Please don't pass the installer or your sign-in on to anyone else. If someone wants in, send them to me and I'll almost certainly say yes.

The important part: keep your own copies

This is pre-release software. It'll have faults, and some of them will be ones I haven't found yet.

WritersBox saves your work on your own computer and makes automatic backups there, and you can export at any time. Even so:

Please keep your own separate copy of anything you can't afford to lose. Export it, or keep a copy somewhere else, and do it regularly. Don't let a beta be the only place a script you care about exists.

I say this because I would rather over-warn you than have you lose a screenplay. Treat it as you would any unfinished tool.

Your writing is yours, and I can't see it

Everything you write stays on your own computer. It isn't uploaded to me and I've no way to read it. I claim no rights over any of it, during the beta or after.

If the beta ends and you don't buy, your files are still yours and still on your machine, and can be exported to standard formats.

Your feedback

By sending me feedback (bugs, ideas, complaints, "this bit is annoying") you're letting me use it to improve WritersBox, without owing you payment or credit for it. That's the normal arrangement and it's what lets me act on suggestions quickly.

This covers your feedback about the software. It doesn't give me any rights over your writing.

What I don't promise

The beta is provided as it is. Things may break, change shape, or disappear between versions. Features may be added or removed. It may be unavailable at times. None of that's a bug in this arrangement. It's what a beta is.

Limit of liability

Because the beta is free, and to the extent the law allows:

I'm not liable for any loss arising from your use of it, including lost or corrupted work, lost time, missed deadlines, or lost opportunities.

Nothing here removes rights you've under consumer law, which can't be signed away.

This is precisely why the backup section is above this one, and in bold.

Ending it

I may end the beta, or your access to it, at any time, normally because a release is ready. Where I can, I'll give notice so nobody is caught mid-draft.

When the beta ends, your work remains yours and remains where it has always been: on your computer.

Privacy

If you make an account, I hold your email, your name if you give one, your password in scrambled form, and a code for each computer you sign in on. Not your writing. The full detail is in the privacy notice.

Which law applies

Ontario, Canada, the same as the main terms, which apply to anything not covered here.
